Let’s talk about the warm, inviting world of soft autumn yellows! I’d have to say that this is definitely the most elusive soft autumn color to find. Yellow is actually a fairly plentiful color in retail, but locating our “just right” shade can be extremely tricky. By nature, yellow is a warm color. In fact, if you want to make any color warmer, you add yellow to it. With our palette being neutral-warm, we can pull off some shades of yellow, but they need to be blended with other colors (such as gray, brown, or green) to tone down their natural warmth. You’ll probably find that even within the soft autumn yellows, only certain ones look good on you (this will be based on your skin tone and natural depth). If you can conquer yellow, you can take on ANY soft autumn color!
Here are a few shades to look for:
Butter Yellow. This creamy, soft hue is just like you’d imagine. Start with cream and add a few drops of yellow and brown. Lighter and more neutral than the beloved color of mustard, this yellow has a delicateness to it which pairs beautifully with richer colors such as browns, deep greens, and even soft grays.
Sunflower. About as bright as a soft autumn color can be, this cheerful hue is perfect for statement pieces like coats, dresses, and jumpsuits. Sunflower yellow adds an instant dose of joy to your wardrobe. Pair it with bold prints, playful patterns, and unexpected textures for a fun look.
Honey Yellow. Sweet and soft, this golden hue resembles sun-drenched afternoons and crisp apple cider. Honey yellow is perfect for lightweight tops, flowy skirts, and delicate accessories. It pairs beautifully with rust, deep blues, and soft creams, adding a touch of warmth to any outfit.
