SOFT AUTUMN EDIT PHILOSOPHY
Many years ago, I heard about the concept of seasonal color analysis. Did it interest me? Kind of. Fast forward to the year 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, and I started seeing the topic pop up everywhere on my social media. Have you ever gotten an idea in your head, and even if you try to forget about it, you can’t? The idea of getting a color analysis kept nagging at me.
I knew that I looked better in certain colors and conversely, I’d also found some colors that looked horrible on me (hello, cherry red…I’m looking at you). But do I really need to look THAT great while kicking it at home in my lounge clothes as a mom of seven? The answer is yes. Not because my good colors make me look like a million bucks, but because they make me FEEL like a million bucks. That’s the part that matters to me the most.
I tried out several free online analysis tools and got different results with each one. I knew I couldn’t be in the winter palette because the descriptions of winter complexions didn’t fit me, but I also “knew” I couldn’t be an autumn because of my “pink” complexion. Aren’t people in the Autumn family supposed to be golden and dark? My self-analysis was getting me nowhere, so I decided to finally bite the bullet and get a professional consult.

Soft Autumn. What? I was actually kind of mad. First of all, what does Soft Autumn even mean? And second of all, I’d already determined that I couldn’t be an Autumn of any variety! I ignored the results and chalked it up to wasted money.
But again, the results kept nagging at me. Accepting defeat, I decided to at least experiment with the palette to see if I could actually make it work for me. After some trial and error, I began to finally SEE it. And, I started to realize that getting a color analysis isn’t the end of the process, it’s actually just the beginning. Truly understanding your palette is of vital importance for getting the most out of your color analysis. The obsession began. I dove deep into trying to grasp the principles of the Soft Autumn palette and spent hours researching undertones, how colors are created, what defines a soft color, etc. One thing I learned along the way is that I am DEFINITELY a Soft Autumn.
Getting a color analysis isn’t the end of
the process. It’s actually just the beginning.
During this time of discovery and research, I can’t tell you how many times I looked for a Soft Autumn Instagram account to follow for tips, advice, and links to items in our palette. Wasn’t there somebody who’d gone down this road before and was documenting it online for us to learn from? Man, how I wished there was.
One day, nearly four years after my color analysis and deep dive of all things Soft Autumn, I stumbled across yet another great item in our palette and wished so badly that I could share it with the world. Then it dawned on me. Perhaps the person behind that Instagram account I’d always wished for should be me! That was the moment Soft Autumn Edit was born.
Since that day, I’ve put together an Instagram account, started this website, and have gotten certified as a Color Analyst myself! I now know quite a bit about all 12 of the seasons, but Soft Autumn has a special place in my heart. My goal for this website is that it will be full of posts about our colors, some tips and tricks, and a whole bunch of links to beautiful Soft Autumn clothing, makeup, and accessories. I’ve walked the road already and am happy to be a resource for you as you explore our glorious palette!
I don’t intend this site to be the official center of the Soft Autumn Universe…laid back and forgiving is how I choose to run things around here. This is a side project that I do in my spare time, and I’m having a blast with it! I’ve met some really awesome women along the way and am loving the community that is forming. Thank you for being here, and I truly hope that you can use this site as a source of joy and encouragement for your Soft Autumn journey.
