When dressing for the soft autumn palette, making use of the green colors that blend with the earthy undertones of the season is a must! This is one of the few colors that we can wear SEVERAL variations of, and I personally take full advantage of this! Our greens can span the range from semi-cool to semi-warm, but as usual, we still need to avoid the extremes.
Here are three quintessential greens that will bring out your best features as a soft autumn beauty:
Olive. This muted, earthy green hue is a staple in soft autumn wardrobes. It harmonizes beautifully with just about ALL of the other muted tones of the season and adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit. Olive is a hue that sits between green and brown on the color spectrum. It can span the range from casual to elegant and pairs well with other soft autumn colors like mustard yellow, rust orange, and dusty rose.
Moss. Soft and muted, moss green is another excellent choice for soft autumn clothing. Its subtle warmth and depth complement the subtle golden undertones of the season. This shade of green reflects the color of mosses found in damp, shaded environments. It typically exhibits a muted, earthy tone with hints of olive, brown, or grey. Moss green adds a touch of natural beauty to any ensemble and pairs well with other earthy tones like taupe, caramel brown, and warm gray.
Sage. Well known as a soothing color, sage green is perfect for soft autumn clothing. Sage green is a soft, muted shade of green that resembles the color of sage leaves. It often has a grayish or desaturated undertone, giving it a subtle, understated quality. Pair this sophisticated shade with other soft autumn colors like blush pink, dusty blue, and mauve.
Below is an expanded palette with 35 great soft autumn greens. If you analyze them closely, you’ll see elements of gray, brown, and even blue. While we do have a few deeper greens in our palette, the majority of them live right in that beautiful mid-range.
Here are examples of greens that are perfect for our palette.
And here are some greens that stray too far from the neutrality that we need. Notice how dark, cool, bright, or yellow some of them are. A few of these items are considered “autumn” colors, but the extreme warmth is a dealbreaker.
