Have you ever tried MAC lipstick? I ended up coming down with a cold a few weeks ago and spent some of my down time playing around with the virtual try-on tool on MAC’s website. This company is well known for their awesome color selection, and I decided to give them a try. The photos below show the shades that I was interested in (the first photo is my natural lips with no color added).
After posting these photos to Instagram, a makeup artist and fellow soft autumn weighed in on her favorite soft autumn MAC colors based on personal experience. She suggested:
- Kinda Sexy
- See Sheer
- Thanks, It’s MAC
- Smoked Almond
With that info, I went ahead and ordered “Thanks, it’s MAC” and “Smoked Almond”. I was looking for a natural pink shade and then something a little bolder…like a red, but not really a red, if you understand what I mean! Something with more oomph but still wearable every day.
I was still interested in trying out the other shades in person to see how accurate the color was represented with the virtual try-on. I went to two different stores and struck out at both places! Neither of the stores had the colors I was looking for, but I’ll keep looking around and will hopefully be able to update this post once I reach success. Until then, I’ve got a picture of the two shades I ordered and love them both. Here is “Thanks, It’s MAC” side by side:

Obviously, the photos have different lighting, so are they the best comparisons? No, but it’s what we’ve got! I’m pleased with the shades I have. Even though the virtual try-on wasn’t a perfect representation of the true colors, it didn’t let me down, and I’d say that is a win!
