The soft autumn color palette is so soft and muted that sometimes we crave a bold pop of color! But how can we do this when “bold”, “bright”, and “dark” don’t exist in our palette? Here are some tips:
- Don’t venture too far outside of the autumn palette when going bold with your colors. Soft, warm, and deep autumns all share similar colors, just in different tones and intensities. Staying within the autumn season will ensure that your colors are still in harmony with one another.
- Place the bold color as far away from your face as possible. Since the bold color is the star of the show, it will tend to draw attention to itself rather than you! So the farther away it is from your face, the less it will compete with you.
- Focus on adding only one bold color to your outfit. Going overboard with a ton of different attention-seeking colors will work against you. As soft autumns, we need our ensembles to blend harmoniously, and throwing in several bold colors will overwhelm the look.
- These red shoes add some interest without overwhelming the whole outfit.
- A purse or handbag in a fun color is another excellent option!
- This shirt is a fairly bright butterscotch color that is definitely in the autumn palette, but it’s too warm for my complexion. It’s right up next to my face and needs something to tone it down a bit. A scarf, cardigan, or sweater in a soft autumn tone would do the trick!
- Much better! The pop of color is still there, but the cardigan helped balance it out.
- Let’s use this as a good example of what NOT to do! The bright shirt, red shoes, and teal purse are too much.
As soft autumns, we don’t need to shy away from the bolder, brighter colors. With some smart placement and styling, we can rock these colors…softly!
