Styling Service Showdown

I recently decided to try out three styling services: Stitch Fix, Daily Look, and Wantable. I’d never tried a service like this before and was curious to see if I could get a box that was customized for our palette. If you’re not familiar with a styling service, here’s a quick rundown of the process:

      • Fill out a questionnaire all about your sizing, style, and preferences.

      • Pay a styling fee for a professional stylist to curate a box of clothing just for you.

      • The box arrives within a week (usually), and you have a few days to try on the items.

      • Pay for the items that you’d like to keep and send the rest back in a pre-labeled package for free. One thing to note is that whatever you pay for the styling fee is added as a credit towards any item(s) that you end up purchasing. So if you buy any item from the box, the styling fee ends up being free.

The process was pretty straight forward for all three services. When filling out the questionnaire, I was specific about what I was looking for. In the future, I will be even more specific to help my stylists really narrow down the essence of the “soft” part of our palette. This is the exact wording I used this first time around:

“I’m in the soft autumn color palette and need my clothes to be muted, earthy tones. No black, white, or gray. Colors like terracotta, olive, and mauve are staples of my wardrobe. Nothing bright or extremely dark”.

I’ll have to admit…trying these boxes out was A LOT of fun. It was almost like somebody sent me a present! A present that I was paying for, of course, but I enjoyed the aspect of having someone else pick the items out for me. Several pieces weren’t things I would have picked out for myself, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked them!

All five items were definitely in the “autumn” category, but a couple weren’t quite as “soft” as I had wanted. This was mostly my mistake in not being specific enough this first time around. Everything I received fit really well, and I did have a hard time narrowing down what to keep or what to send back. In the end, I chose to keep the rust-colored dress. It’s comfortable, and I’ve already gotten some good use out of it. Here are all of the items I received:

    Daily Look

This was the largest box by far! I was excited to open the box and find nine items waiting for me to try on. Unfortunately, a few of the pieces were black and styles that I had specifically requested NOT to have. The majority of the pieces were really great though so I’m willing to try again. Next time, I’ll be very specific about the colors and denote them not as “preferences” but as “needs”. I ended up keeping the rust skirt. Here are the items I received (minus the pieces I obviously wasn’t planning to keep):

    Wantable

The box from Wantable was a slam dunk! All seven items were awesome, and it was difficult to decide what NOT to keep. I landed on the green ruffle blouse and the faded orange sweatshirt. Here are all of the items:

    Conclusion

This was a great first experience, and I plan to try each of these companies again in the future. I highly recommend it for anyone that is new to our palette and needs some nudging in the right direction for new clothing in our colors. If you are interested in trying out the services, I have some referral links for you. The offers change around quite frequently, so I don’t know the exact discount you’ll receive (I do also receive a small referral credit in my account).
