Charcoal gray can be a great color for the soft autumn palette, but it can also be a horrible color if it has the wrong undertones. Look for charcoal gray pieces with undertones of brown or taupe rather than cooler undertones like blue or purple. The photos below show charcoal with different undertones. Notice the first photo has a brown undertone and harmonizes with my natural coloring (including my hair) much better than the rest. Like most soft autumn colors, we need this one to be “just right”. Not too steely, dark, or cool.
